Three people died and eight others were injured in a horrific car crash on the N2 North bound before Spaghetti junction on Friday night.
The fourth person, a teenager, died on Saturday morning.
ALS Paramedics Medical Services, Life Response 24/7, eThekwini Fire Department and SAPS were on the scene.
According to a statement by ALS paramedics medical services, it is believed that an SUV carrying an entire family had somehow lost control and collided into the rear of a truck.
“One male and two females from the SUV were found to be severely entrapped in the wreckage with fatal injuries. They were declared dead on scene,” read the statement.
The eThekwini Fire Department had to use jaws of life and other hydraulic tools to free them from the wreckage.
“Eight others including two babies had sustained injuries ranging from moderate to critical and they were stabilized on the scene before being transported to a nearby Durban hospital for the further treatment that they required,” read the statement.
ALS Paramedics Medical Services added that the events leading up to the accident are unknown however SAPS will be investigating further.
