Durban screening: The Last Seed award-winning documentary feature film

27 September @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Free
DURBAN SCREENING and reception of * THE LAST SEED * The much-anticipated, award-winning documentary feature film about the struggle for seed in Africa.

This important, timely and visually stunning documentary feature film exposes the far-reaching and devastating consequences of the corporate control of farmer seed and our food system. The Last Seed was produced by the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation in association with the Alliance for Food Sovereignty in Africa (AFSA), PELUM Tanzania, and Biowatch South Africa (a Durban- and Mtubatuba-based NGO that works with agroecology farmers, communities, and other civil society organisations to stop the corporate appropriation of natural resources and the food system – especially in South Africa).

In The Last Seed we witness the struggles and triumphs of African small-scale food producers as they navigate the complex web of western science, politics and economics that supports the corporate capture crisis. Hear agroecology farmers, experts and activists from South Africa, Senegal and Tanzania talk about the sustainability and adaptability of their farming practices as they advocate for seed sovereignty on the African continent. Spotlighting the growing threat to Farmers’ Rights, seed and food sovereignty, soil health and biodiversity, they defend and show evidence for agroecology as a culturally-aligned, life-affirming and climate-resilient alternative to industrial agriculture, chemical poisons and corporate control.

The Last Seed has already won several awards at local and international film festivals and the producers are negotiating with streaming services to make it available for public viewing later this year.
